Crowcon IRmax Infrared Gas Detector

The Crowcon IRmax is an infrared gas detector for hydrocarbon gases and vapours. Suitable for offshore use or in hot, cold, wet and saline environments. As IRmax contains no components for artificially heating optical surfaces, power consumption is minimal; only 1W of power is required. Stay Clir optical components have a highly durable coating that prevents faults due to condensation.

All models have a 4-20mA analogue output, ensuring compatibility with control systems. There are two options for HART communications: super-imposed over the 4-20mA signal or by the IS contacts on the IRmax display module for Local HART configurator connection. In addition, there is an option for RS-485 Modbus communications, which is not available with display-enabled detectors (either Fixed display or IS barrier module/remote display).

Monitoring is possible with the optical system 90% obscured by salt or other contaminants; a fault signal will trigger. The level of obscuration can be checked if equipped with an IR display.

Mounting options for walls, pipes 50mm (2 inches), or connection to an auxiliary junction box.

Versions

  • IRmax Basic, detector only.
  • IRmax With Fixed IR Display indicates gas concentrations, operating status and enables non-intrusive calibration.
  • IRmax With IS Barrier Module allows the connection of a permanently installed Remote IR Display module (up to 30 metres from the detector) or Hand-Held IR Display for status checking and non-intrusive calibration. The ambient temperature must be below 40°C, and the IR display can only be used outside the hazardous area.
